BlackBerry
BlackBerry OS is a proprietary mobile operating system, developed by Research In Motion (RIM) for its BlackBerry line of smartphone handheld devices. The operating system provides multitasking and supports specialized input devices that have been adopted by RIM for use in its handhelds, particularly the trackwheel, trackball, and most recently, the trackpad and touchscreen. RIM is best known for creating the BlackBerry® smartphone and providing solutions that allow seamless, mobile access to time-sensitive information through email, phone, text messages, the Internet and applications. Windows Mobile / Windows Phone 7
Windows Mobile /Windows Phone 7 is a mobile operating system developed by Microsoft that is used in smartphones and mobile devices. Windows Mobile /Windows Phone 7 is based on the Windows CE 5.2 kernel and it is first appeared as the Pocket PC 2000 operating system. It is supplied with a suite of basic applications developed with the Microsoft Windows API, and is designed to have features and appearance somewhat similar to desktop versions of Windows. Most Windows Mobile devices come with a stylus, which is used to enter commands by tapping it on the screen. The ‘Windows Mobile’ (Microsoft’s term for its range of smartphones) became the next hardware platform after the Pocket PC to run Windows Mobile, and debuted with the release of Pocket PC 2002.

Symbian platform
Symbian is a mobile operating system (OS) and computing platform designed for smartphones and currently maintained by Nokia. It is an open source operating systems and software platforms, first developed by Psion then by Symbian Ltd., a software development and licensing company and later by the non-profit organisation, the Symbian Foundation. From 2010, Symbian switched to using standard C++ with Qt as the SDK, which can be used with either Qt Creator or Carbide. It supports older Symbian S60 3rd and 5th editions, Maemo and MeeGo, Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and as well as the new Symbian platform.

Java ME
Java Platform, Micro Edition, or Java ME, is a Java platform designed for embedded systems. Java ME was designed by Sun Microsystems, now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation. Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) provides a robust, flexible environment for applications running on mobile and other embedded devices: mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), TV set-top boxes, and printers. Java ME includes flexible user interfaces, robust security, built-in network protocols, and support for networked and offline applications that can be downloaded dynamically. Applications based on Java ME are portable across many devices, yet leverage each device’s native capabilities.

BREW
Brew – Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless (BREW) is an application development platform created by Qualcomm, originally for CDMA mobile phones, featuring third party applications such as mobile games. It is offered in some feature phones but not in smart phones. Brew MP is no newcomer. It’s built from technology that has powered over 1200 device models and hundreds of millions of handsets in the field today. As a software platform that can download and run small programs for playing games, sending messages, and sharing photos, the main advantage of Brew MP is that the application developers can easily port their applications among all Brew MP devices by providing a standardized set of application programming interfaces.
